Frequently Asked Questions
1. Q: Who can
view reports stored on the TransparentSea Reporting Solution Repository?
A: Only persons
or parties who have been granted access permission and issue with
a digital key to access the Repository server may view reports
stored on the TransparentSea
Reporting Solution Repository.
2. Q: Who controls
access to the TransparentSea Reporting Solution Repository?
A: The company
or organisation under whose control the TransparentSea Reporting
Solution Repository
in question resides decide to whom access permissions to
reports are granted. For instance,
if a ship management company uses the TransparentSea Reporting
Solution to manage inspection
and survey reports for the fleet under its management, it may
grant access permission for its
principals to see reports regarding the ships owned by each principal,
but without being able to view reports for ships belonging
to other principals. Likewise, for hosted solutions, it is
the owner of reports who decides to whom access
permissions should be granted.
3. Q: Does the
TransparentSea Reporting Solution require a significant investment
in hardware and infrastructure?
A: No. The TransparentSea
Reporting Solution Repository installed on customer's own server
requires
a standard server with standard Microsoft operating system.
Depending on the level of importance
placed on download speeds, the customer chooses how much bandwidth
to acquire for accessing
the Repository.
4. Q: What if
I do not want to manage the hardware, software and infrastructure
but still want to use the TransparentSea
Reporting Solution?
A: TransparentSea Limited
offers a hosted solution, whereby your data and reports will reside
on a secure
server in the Tier-1 ISP, to which no one but the owner of the
data and reports has access. Contact
Us for details.
5. Q: Can the
TransparentSea Reporting Solution Repository owner change reports
stored on the Repository?
A: No. The records
stored on the TransparentSea Reporting Solution Repository are
tamper-proofed deploying
Public Key Infrastructure and Microsoft Active Directory Services
to protect the integrity of reports.
An inherent feature of utilising government-grade security infrastructure
is non-repudiation of report
data, thus enhancing the documentary integrity of stored reports.
Report owners may adjust reports and save them as new reports,
but maintaining the original report on the Repository.
6. Q: Do I need
to acquire the full TransparentSea Reporting Solution package,
even if I do not want to share
reports via the Internet?
A: No, if you
only need an application for creating and printing reports, the
scaled down version of the
TRS Builder is all you need. With the TRS Builder (scaled down
version) you are able to prepare reports,
create hotspots, upload digital media files under hotspots, and
export reports to MS Word or MS PowerPoint
format, but it is not possible to upload reports from the TRS
Builder (scaled down version)
to a TRS Repository, and reports prepared in the scaled down
version are not tamper-proofed (see
above).
7. Q: How do I
enable third-party inspectors and surveyors who do not use the
TRS to prepare TRS reports on
inspections of my vessels?
A: You can install
the TRS Builder on a PC onboard your ships, and request the inspectors
to report that
PC. Reports can then be uploaded to the TRS Repository via INMARSAT.
